Geography defines East Tennessee as a land of mountains and valleys and with a history and heritage apart from the rest of the state. The East Tennessee Historical Society recognizes this distinctiveness with programs and exhibitions uniquely tailored to the region. This Day In East Tennessee History

  • July 26, 1925

    On this day in 1925, just days after finishing prosecution on the Scopes Trial, William Jennings Bryan died in Dayton, Tennessee.

  • July 26, 1903

    Estes Kefauver was born in Madisonville on this day in 1903.  He served East Tennessee in both the U.S. House and Senate.  He was a strong support of racial equality and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
