Bilo Spencer Nelson

Volunteer and Benefactor for Educational and Medical Causes

A generous grant from Bilo Spencer Nelson has funded improvements to the ETHS auditorium including state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, a soundproofing system, technical equipment for the classroom, and additional chairs and tables to accommodate growing attendance. In honor of her generous support, the auditorium at the East Tennessee History Center carries the name of “Bilo Spencer Nelson,” as does the lobby of the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Bilo’s uncle Samuel L. Slover, previously designated as an ETHS Pillar of Support, was an East Tennessean with a national success story, having founded Landmark Communications, the company that eventually became the Weather Channel. Mrs. Nelson passed away on April 10, 2012.
